Why Do People Use Pickup Lines?

Pickup lines will never replace a great opening, but they will break the ice and possibly make the other person smile if not laugh.

First of all, let down your guard and be yourself. If you are using a line, make it clear that you know the approach you are using is cliché. You may not get the girl, but she will probably laugh and carry on a conversation just the same. Bear in mind, there is no such thing as a miracle line; however, there is a better choice.

The classic lines are fun to laugh at, but they do not work quite like a simple greeting followed by a question, which will engage a conversation. Something like this, “Hi, my name is (_____).” Then followed by a question like, “Do you like the band?” Or, “Are you here with friends?”

After you have posed the question and they respond, play off their reaction and keep the conversation alive. Remember the more confident you appear, the better you will do. If this doesn't work, don't worry. There are lot's of other people out there waiting to be talked too--don't get discouraged--just try the process again, eventually, you will connect with someone.
Too many men have a tendency to walk up to women they find attractive with an air of stupidity. Often, it is out of a fear of rejection; nevertheless, it's not an excuse for barbaric behavior. One of the reasons men act this way is because they don’t want to leave themselves open to mockery; furthermore, when they approach women, they tend to come off as proud and overbearing. Their intention is to look cool in front of their friends. Unfortunately, this may elicit a negative response--the opposite of what they are trying to achieve. The other extreme is someone who delivers the pickup line too seriously, provoking an inevitable laugh.

For the sake of argument, I have compiled many lines from friends and personal experiences. These lines are separated into categories: Cheesiest Pickup Lines, Hey Baby, Do You, The Best, The Worst, Looking For A Slap, and For The Girls. Feel free to do whatever you want with these. Even though pickup lines are unnecessary, men have been inflicting them on unsuspecting women for years. The only real benefit of the line is to initiate a conversation. If that is your goal, then you are wasting your time with a line. What you need is a great opening. There are literally hundreds of openers which are much more effective ways to leave a lasting impression. That being said, the pickup line should be left for what it does best: a great way to share a laugh with friends. Aside from that, anyone who tells you that a pickup line is an integral part of picking up women, does not know the first thing about picking up women.
